<p>1498359 Sintered bodies made from cryogenically crushed metal FORD MOTOR CO Ltd 18 May 1976 [6 June 1975] 20560/76 Heading C7D Sintered metal bodies are made from cryogenically crushed metal powder which is impacted at ambient temperature, e.g. bath milled, with Cu containing powder maximum particle size 0.1" and Cu free elements e.g. iron balls, larger than 0.1". The Cu coated cold worked powder is then compacted and sintered. The Fe ball impacting elements are preferably at least 50 times as large as the largest powder particle. The process is particularly applicable to low alloy steel scrap turnings with a surface volume ratio of at least 60:1, the turnings being refrigerated with liquid N 2 to below 40‹F, ball milled at this temperature with iron balls and then ball milled at ambient temperature with ¢" iron balls and Cu powder. The Cu coated powder is then pressed and sintered conventionally.</p> |
