1498114 Treatment of organic textile materials CIBA-GEIGY AG 27 March 1975 [29 March 1974] 13018/75 Headings D1B and DIP A process for treating organic textile material comprises (a) applying to the material, in a ratio of goods (in Kg) to liquor (in litres) of at most 1:2, an aqueous dispersion or solution of a processing agent having affinity for the fibres and (b) treating the material from step (a) with saturated steam below the absorption temperature of the processing agent to increase the proportion of liquor in relation to goods and at such a rate that the processing agent becomes uniformly dispersed on the material prior to any fixing step. The fixation of the processing agent may then be effected. Preferably the aqueous solution or dispersion of the processing agent is applied in a ratio of goods to liquor of 1:0.3 to 1:2, the proportion of liquor in relation to goods preferably being increased by treatment with saturated steam to 1.2 to 4 times its original value provided that the ratio of goods to liquor does not exceed 1:5. Steam treatment may be carried out for 5 to 60 mins in the absence of surfaceactive agents. Polyester, polyamide, polyacrylonitrile and cotton or mixtures thereof may be treated at room temperature in closed or pressure tight plants with dyestuffs, optical brighteners, softening agents, dirt-repellants, moth-proofing, water-proofing, fire-proofing, antistatic, shrink-proofing, desizing, creaseproofing and bleaching agents.
