1383724 Powdered maltitol sweetener KOWA CO Ltd 3 April 1973 [17 April 1972] 15993/73 Heading A2B [Also in Division C2] Maltitol (4-(-D-glucopyranosyl)-D-sorbitol) is obtained as a dry powder by adding a paste material suitable as a food additive to an aqueous solution of maltitol and drying the mixture for example by spray drying or vacuum drying; the dried product may be pulverised if necessary to form a powder. Paste materials are defined as materials which when mixed with water form a cohesive mixture; examples are sodium alginate, propylene glycol alginate, sodium carboxymethylcellulose, sodium carboxymethylstarch, sodium starch phosphate, methyl cellulose, hydroxyethyl starch, polyvinyl pyrrolidone and polysaccharide of tamarind seed. 1-10% by weight of this material, based on anhydrous maltitol, is preferably used. The powdered maltitol may be used as a sweetening agent, in particular for diebetic or low calorie diets. |
