The continuously adjustable support for the back (5) or foot rest has at least one bracket (7) curved and hinged directly onto the support. The free end of the bracket goes through a flexibly pre-stressed clamping ring (8) and release lever. Part of the brackets (7) length is surrounded by a tubular sleeve (9) which can be moved on an eccentric axis on crank shaft (12) parallel to the axis of curvature of the bracket, by means of a rocking lever (10). The latter (10) can be moved in a comparatively small angular intervals. The pivot radius of the tubular sleeve (9) in the tilting axis is less than the radius of curvature of the clamp. The sleeve rocking lever (10) is hinged on the tubular sleeve by means of an intermediate reversing lever (15). The sleeve rocking lever (10) has a handle (11) inside the frame of the reclining bed.
