The steam valve has an operating spindle supported for rotation but against axial movement in a housing and extends from the inside to the outside of the housing thorugh a stuffing box. The spindle has secured to it a sleeve, and the stuffing box is contained in a space between the sleeve and a bore in the housing. A nut at the outside end of the stuffing box holds the box against an abutment inside the housing. The arrangement ensures that the spindle is protected equally well against corrosion by steam from the inside, and against atmospheric corrosion from the outside of the valve.
|
