The telephone exchange allows subscriber numbers to be changed easily at the switching network and has two pairs of spring break contacts associated with each subscriber. The first pair of contacts is associated with the subscriber number and receives a marker signal when that number is selected. The second pair of contacts is associated with the switching network's connection layout for that subscriber and passes on the marker signal to actuate the appropriate subscriber circuit. The both pairs of contacts can be broken by inserting two insulating pins with contacts that connect together the contents of one pair with those of the other.
