Multifilament synthetic yarns are imparted alternately directed S or Z twists in a turbulent pneumatic chamber having two divergent side walls, in that the vertically directed air jet is periodically deflected to one or the other side wall thereby forcing the yarn passing through the opening of the chamber into contact with one or the other of the walls and impart the oppositely directed twists to alternate yarn sections.Two separate twisting chambers are dispensed with.
