1479232 Refractory bodies impregnated with metal VEITSCHER MAGNESITWERKE AG 1 Aug 1975 [29 Aug 1974] 32341/75 Heading ClJ A refractory magnesia body impregnated with metal, in which the magnesia has an SiO 2 content below 1À5% by weight, an Fe 2 O 3 content below 0À8% by weight, an MnO content below 0À1% by weight and an Al 2 O 3 content below 0À5% by weight and in which the impregnated body has a metal content of 6-15% by weight and an open porosity below 2À5% by volume, is prepared by complete immersion (and subsequent removal) without the use of a vacuum in a metal melt consisting of at least 70% by weight of magnesium metal, but in which up to 30% by weight can consist of at least one of Al, Fe, Si, Cr and Ca. The magnesium metal may be melted under a protective gas (e.g. SO 2 ) and the temperature maintained at 10-50‹ C. above the metal melting point. Preferably the brick is immersed for 1-5 minutes. |
