1509933 Coating polymethyl methacrylate lenses DAICEL Ltd 3 June 1975 23875/75 Heading B2E [Also in Division C3] A coating solution which may be used to coat polymethyl methacrylate lenses consists essentially of (a) 10 - 40wt.% of hydrolysate and partial condensate obtained by hydrolysing at 50 - 80‹C for 1 - 10 hrs. a silane R'Si(OR") 3 , or mixture thereof, in which R' is C 1-4 alkyl, phenyl or vinyl and R" is C 1-4 alkyl, (b) 0.05-5wt.% of (a) of an alkali metal or zinc naphthonate, (c) 5 - 30wt.% of acetic acid and (d) an organic solvent other than (c) to 100wt.%. The solution is preferably of viscosity 10 - 30cP/20"C. In Examples 1-4 MeSi(O#t) 3 in ethanol is hydrolysed at 75‹C for 3hrs with water. To the product is added butanol and Na naphthenate in acetic acid to give solutions containing 15 - 35wt.% (a). 15 or 21% acetic acid and 0.2 - 5phr of sodium naphthenate. |
