<p>The present invention provides a fluid propulsion unit including means defining a circular aperture through which fluid is to be propelled, a rotatable member located in said aperture and having a periphery adjacent but clear of the boundary of said aperture, said rotatable member being rotatable about a central axis perpendicular to the circular plane of the aperture such that said periphery produces a shock wave sealing one side of the aperture from the other at the clearance between the periphery and the aperture boundary and such that fluid on one side of the aperture is drawn into the aperture within the shock wave seal and propelled through to the other side of the aperture by the rotatable member.</p> |
