<p>1465054 Thermal storage heaters UNIDARE ENG Ltd 27 Feb 1974 [27 Feb 1973] 9543/73 Heading F4U A control device for an electric storage heater having a casing, a refractory core located within the casing, electric elements for heating the core and ventilation passages through the core, comprises a thermostatic charge controller 1 for controlling the supply of electric current to the elements and a thermostatically operated ventilation controller 2 for controlling output from the heater of heated air from the ventilation passages. The controllers 1, 2 each include setting devices in the form of manually adjusable setting dials disposed on spindles 3, 4 also carrying cams 7, 8. The cams are preferably of spiral contour. The setting devices are mechanically interconnected by an angled lever 8a attached to a bimetallic strip 9, the lever 8a being pivotably connected at 10 to a second lever 11 one end of which is fulcrummed on a stationary part of the heater by a hinge 12. The levers are spring-loaded by spring 15. The strip 9 is positioned to open or close a damper 6 in a ventilation air passage; the damper 6 opening the passage to boost the output of heated air in response to a drop in temperature in the heater. In operation of the control device, irrespective of the setting of the charge controller, the setting of the ventilation controller will determine the approximate time (following the end of the charging period) when the increased ventilation effect will commence.</p> |
