1352648 Electric cells PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd 30 June 1972 [3 July 1971] 30775/72 Heading H1B In a primary cell for use at low temperatures, wherein the electrolyte solvent is ammonia the cathode comprises a mixture of depolarizer and carbon, part of which consists of hollow carbon bodies. These are preferably hollow spheres of diameter 5 to 150 Ám, mean diameter about 40 Ám and wall thickness 1 to 2 Ám. They may constitute 8 to 11 % by weight of the cathode, e.g. the cathode may comprise 5 parts by weight m-dinitrobenzene, 5 parts by weight graphite and 1 part by weight of hollow carbon pellets. The cell may have a magnesium anode and may be of the construction disclosed in U.S. Specification 3,445,295. |
