PURPOSE:To reaction between a carbonate salt of a metal of GroupIin the periodic table, an alcohol, carbon dioxide and an organic halide is conducted in the presence of a catalyst to produce said compound in high selectivity and yield. CONSTITUTION:A reaction product from a carbonate of a metal of GroupIin the periodic table such as sodium carbonate, an alcohol of the formula: R''-OH (R'' is 1-15C alkyl or aralkyl) such as ethanol, and carbon dioxide is made to react with an organic halide of formulaI(R1-3H, are alkyl, phenyl; X is Cl, Br or I) such as allyl chloride in the presence of a catalyst such as quarternary salt of nitrogen or phosphor of formula II, III or IV in a polar solvent at room temperature to 200 deg.C under the atmosphere of carbon dioxide with the partial pressure of 1-50 kg/cm<2> to produce an organic carbonate. EFFECT:The use of high-toxicity starting materials and expensive silver carbonate is not required in the present invention and further asymmetric organic carbonates can be formed in high selectivity. USE:Plasticizers, additives for resins, lubricants, and solvents. |
