A deactivated hydrocarbon conversion catalyst, which is a combination of a group VIII-precious metallic component and a halogen component with a refractory inorganic material and which has been deactivated by deposition of carbonaceous materials was regenerated by sequentialy removing the carbonaceous materials by burning, hydrogenation to increase the halogen content, and drying to remove water from the catalyst.
