摘要 A motorcycle includes liquid crystal display device with a liquid crystal panel and a back light source, a main controller which receives predetermined inputs pertaining to a current operating state of the vehicle or to a rider's intended operations of the vehicle, and a sub-controller for controlling the back light source. The sub-controller is configured to switch the back light source from a normal output state to a low output state if none of the predetermined inputs are inputted to the main controller for at least a predetermined time period, and to switch the back light source back to the normal output state if at least one of the predetermined inputs is inputted to the main controller when the back light source is in the low output state. The predetermined inputs correspond to the rider's operation of control members of the saddle type vehicle when riding.

A straddle type vehicle comprising: a liquid crystal display device including a liquid crystal panel and a back light source arranged on a rear side of a display surface of the liquid crystal panel; a main controller which receives predetermined inputs pertaining to a current operating state of the vehicle or to a rider's intended operations of the vehicle; and a sub-controller for controlling said liquid crystal panel and said back light source; wherein said sub-controller is configured to switch the back light source from a normal output state to a low output state when the main controller determines that the vehicle is idle, andswitch the back light source back to the normal output state if the main controller determines that the vehicle is not idle; and wherein the main controller is configured to determine that the vehicle is idle when, for at least a predetermined time period, a vehicle speed is 0 km/s and a shift position is neutral and a throttle value opening amount is 0 and there is no input from a starter switch and there is no input from an engine stop switch and a gyro signal is maintained in a constant range and an input from an acceleration sensor is maintained in a constant range.
