摘要 <p>An amorphous silicon solar cell 10 has an active body 20 with two 22, 26 or a series of layers of hydrogenated amorphous silicon arranged in a stacked configuration along one optical path and electrically interconnected by a tunnel junction 24. The layers of hydrogenated amorphous silicon arranged in tandem configuration can have the same bandgap but preferably have differing bandgaps thus avoiding the need for light filters, epitaxially matching active regions or serially connecting separate solar cells. The layers may be deposited on a conductive oxide layer 14 on a transparent substrate 12 over cermet or metal cermet layer 16. Each silicon layer may include a PN or PIN junction and the lower layer 22 includes less hydrogen so as to have a smaller bandgap. Junction layer 24 may be of a metal cermet or metal. In a variant with the substrate on the other side of the layer structure the light enters the cell through a grid electrode. <IMAGE></p>
