PURPOSE:To prepare a carcinostatic agent having increased activity, consisting of a lysozyme or its salts and an antimalignant tumor substance. CONSTITUTION:A carcinostatic agent consisting of a lysozyme or its salts (e.g. lysozyme chloride) and an anti-malignant tumor substnce [e.g. mitomycin, N1- (2-tetrahydrofuryl)-5-fluorouracil, cyclophosphamide]. The mechanism of action for the combined effect is not certainly known, but it is considered that (1) the lysozyme directly affects cancer cells and suppresses the proliferation; (2) the lysozyme affects cancer cell membrane and accelerates intake of chemicals into the cancer cells; or (3) the lysozyme excludes cancer cells out of a living body by increasing the activity of immune cells, e.g. macrophage, etc. Lysozymes are almost free from side effects and can be continually used for long term. |
