<p>Suspension for light valves consists of numerous (colloidally) suspended particles (I), which respond to an electric field, with change of transmission of the incident light, a suspending medium (II), comprising an aromatic ester (IIA) of an aromatic alcohol, and a copolymer (III) of min. 2 different monomers. At least one monomer (IV) contains a free functional gp., e.g. a OH or COOH gp., and >=1 other (V) is soluble in (II), whilst the distance from the carrier chain to the most distant functional gp. of (IV) is less than the distance from the chain to a nonfunctional gp. of (V). Agglomeration is avoided. The light valves are useful in windows, displays, mirrors, windscreens etc.</p> |
