PURPOSE:The catalyst body for gas purification of lightness in weight, high mechanical strength, heat resistance and abrasion resistance and fast reaction initiation which is composed of lime aluminate, calcium silicate and catalyst metals (oxides). CONSTITUTION:Heat-resisting aggregate, metal oxides, composite oxides, molding assistants and water are added to the mixture of 20-80% of the lime aluminate (A) containing, e.g., lime 15-40% (based on weight and hereinafter the same), alumina 35-80% and iron oxide 2-20% and 80-20% of calcium silicate (B) of 0.13-0.8g/cm<3> in bulk density and 95% or over in voids and the mixture is molded to a desired shape, which is then cured and set, whereby the carrier is obtained. Next, this carrier is dipped in the aqueous solution of one or more kinds of catalyst metal salts selected from platinum group metals to let the platinum group metals be carried on the carrier, after which the carrier is heat treated to reduce the metal salts, whereby the catalyst body for gas purification is obtained. |
