AN ALLOY FOR A NOZZLE PLATE FOR SPINNING GLASS FIBERS

The Pt alloy contains Au 3-10 and Pd 3-12%. Thus, vacuummelted Pt-10Pd-5% Au was rolled to 2mm and perforated with 34 holes/cm2. There was no cracking, and the useful life was<3 months. In comparison<7 holes/cm2 were maintained in commercial Pt-9.5 Rh-55 Au. The contact angle with molton glass at 1100-1300≦̸ was 60-78≦̸ for the commerical alloy.
