PURPOSE:A composition for oral cavity that contains 2',6'-dihydroxy-9-(2,5-dihydroxyphenyl)octylphenone as the effective component, thus effectively preventing tooth decay and periodental diseases. CONSTITUTION:2',6'-Dihydroxy-9-(2,5-dihydroxyphenyl)octylphenone of the formula is incorporated in an amount of 0.0005-5% to give said composition for oral cavity that depress the formation of glucosyltransferase by Streptococcus mutans and of plaque as well as prohibits the propagation of Streptococcus mutans to prevent tooth decay and periodental diseases effectively. The compound of the formula is tasteless and odorless to unchange the taste of the oral cavity composition when combined. Further, it has low toxicity and shows sufficient effect even when used in a small amount. Therefore, its safety is very high. |
