A pressure control for a windscreen wiper blade has flat pads (20) each side of the blade (13) and with air holes in the pads connected to air lines (18) on the rear of the plates. The venturi effect of the air rushing between the pads and the windscreen increases the pressure of the blades onto the glass. The system can have round or oblong plates of transparent plastics. They are spaced along the blade for optimum effect and are connected to air scoop which provides an increasing air pressure with road speed. The pressure increase counteracts the lift of the blades at higher speeds.
