Phenyl-hydrazone(s) of 1,1,1-tri:fluoro-acetyl cpds. - useful as insecticides, acaricides, tickicides etc.

(A) Insecticidal compsn. contains a phenylhydrazone of a 1,1,1-trifluoroacetyl cpd. of formula (I): (R1-5 are H, Cl, Br, NO2 or CF3; X is H or Br; and Z is H, Me or CF3). (B) Cpds. (I) are new, except that when X = R2 = R4 = R5 = H and Z = Me, then R1 and R3 are not both NO2. (I) are all potent inhibitors of oxidative phosphorylation in rat liver mitochondria, and are insecticides esp. effective against houseful, Australian sheep blowfly, mosquitoes, ants, acarina esp. spider mites, cattle ticks etc.
