<p>The aluminium piston is furnished with a number of equidistant grooves (3) which are saw toothed in section and have the long side of the groove pointing downwards and the short side pointing upwards. The grooves are located on the trunk of the piston below the rings. The piston is covered with a coating of ferrous material applied by galvanic action to a thickness of 1 to 30 microns. The application has a composition of 0.5 to 6% metallic oxides. The effect of the grooves is to trap quantities of oil on the piston surface to improve lubrication.</p> |
