The milk valve for use in a milking machine is normally open, and can be cleaned without removal from the machine. It comprises a valve body (10) with openings in the wall (15,20) through which the milk flows, and a plug (31) sealed to the body and working against a seat round one of the openings. An elastic diaphragm (24) between the plug and the body forms a valve chamber through which milk flows between the openings. Air pressure on the diaphragm presses the plug against the seat whenever the air pressure on the side near the seat falls appreciably below the first pressure. The area between diaphragm and valve seat is unobstructed apart from the plug.
