PURPOSE:To obtain a solid-state image pickup unit which is free from deterioration in picture quality due to ssmears and makes it possible to increase its shutter speed by providing a vertical transfer part and memory part shielded from light and by sending the charge of a photodetection part to a horizontal transfer part by way of the both. CONSTITUTION:Photodetection parts 21 arranged in a matrix corresponding to respective picture elements are connected to vertical transfer register part 23 by way of transfer gates 22 and at its opposite side, overflow drains 25 are provided through overflow control gates 24. Vertical transfer register parts 23 are connected to horizontal transfer register 27 via memory part 26. Vertical lines are isolated mutually by channel stopper 28 and parts other than photodetection parts 21 are all covered with a shielding plate. Signal charge obtained at each photodetection part 21 is transferred from vertical transfer register part 23 to memory part 26 at a high speed and read via horizontal transfer register 27. |
