A locking device for a dumping snow shovel. The shovel has a handle with a cross-bar in the handle adjacent and parallel to the rear of the shovel. The handle is pivotably and slidably mounted to the shovel. The locking device is mounted on the back of the shovel and receives the bar to lock the handle to the shovel for snow loading. The bar can be pivoted out of the locking device to dump the snow Prom the shovel.
