摘要 A piggyback I.V. administration set for alternatively administering to a patient a primary liquid and a secondary liquid at different pressures and flow rates, and for automatically switching between them, comprises primary tubing adapted at one end for connection to a primary liquid source, secondary tubing adapted at one end for connection to a secondary liquid source at a higher pressure head, a Y-site junction device for receiving the other ends of said tubings, outlet tubing from said junction device for conveying either liquid to the patient, check valve means in the primary liquid flow path to prevent flow of secondary liquid into the primary tubing, first adjustable flow rate control means below the junction device for controlling the higher flow rate of the secondary liquid, and second flow rate control means above the first for controlling the flow rate of the primary liquid without restricting the flow of secondary liquid. The check valve may be a hydrophilic microporous membrane. Other such membranes which may be located in the Y-junction, may be provided to protect the patient from entrained air. <IMAGE>
