PURPOSE:To obtain a cold storage agent having a great cooling ability and improved freeze resistance, by mixing specific amounts of borax, boric acid, etc. with a colloidal dispersion containing specific amounts of a gum substance consisting of guar gum, etc. and alpha-starch, etc. CONSTITUTION:(D) 0.01-0.2wt% borax, (E) 0.01-0.5wt% boric acid and (F) 0-1wt% potassium chloride in the case of (c) carrageenan used as a gum substance are mixed with a colloidal dispersion containing (A) 0.5-4wt% the gum substance consisting of (a) guar gum, (b) locust bean gum or further (c) carrageenan, (B) 0.2-2wt% alpha-starch and (C) 0-20wt% propylene glycol and gelatinized to give the aimed cold storage agent. Preferably, the components (a), (b) and (c) in the component (A) are used in amounts of 0.2-2wt%, 0.1-1.5wt% and 0.1-1.5wt% respectively. The amounts are based on the final product.
