NEW MATERIAL:An antibiotic, XK-213, of the formula; appearance: white powder or white crystals; melting point: about 260 deg.C (decomposition); elementary analysis: (found in %), C 53.8, H 4.0, N 6.3; molecular equation: C10H9NO5; specific rotatory power: [alpha]D<25>=-400 deg. (C=0.1 in methanol); solubility: soluble in water, methanol, DMHA, insoluble in ethyl acetate, ethyl ether, n-hexane; coloring reaction: false-positive to ninhydrin reaction USE:Antibacterial and antitumorigenic: it is also used as a raw material that is converted into a derivative with high activity. PREPARATION:A microorganism that belongs to Streptomyces and produces the antibiotic XK-213, e.g., Streptomyces echinosporus MK-213 mold. (FERM-5229), is aerobically cultured in a liquid medium and the objective substance is adsorbed on an activated carbon by passing the filtrate of the culture mixture and eluted with 80% aqueous acetone to collect the antibiotic, XK-213. |
