1492473 Centrifugal casting PONT-A-MOUSSON SA 27 March 1975 [3 April 1974] 12816/75 Heading B3F In a machine for centrifugally casting iron pipes on a horizontal axis, the casting mould 1 is maintained on sets of at least three coplanar rollers 7, the lower two rollers 8 being supporting rollers, and the upper pressing roller 12 being driven by a hydraulic motor 19. The upper roller 12 is mounted between the branches of a pivotal arm 13, pivotted on a fin 14 and the position of the roller 12 is controlled by a hydraulic jack 15, the piston 18 of which is attached to arm 13. An L-shaped lever 21, also pivotted to pin 14, has a projection 22 on the upper portion, the projection being capable of abutting a pin 24 on arm 13. The other end of lever 21 has a projection 25 and a ramp portion 26. When the mould 1 is in the casting position, it is supported on rollers 8, and upper rollers 12 bear down on it. Lever 21 is in the downward position, and ramp 26 lies below the upper level of rollers 8. To remove the mould from the machine, jacks 15 are actuated causing arm 13 to pivot about pin 14 and raise rollers 12 off the mould surface. The pin 24 then contacts projection 22 on lever 21 thus pivotting lever 21 and raising ramp 26 above the level of the rollers 8, thus the mould is removed from contact with the rollers. Simultaneously levers 27 pivotted on the end of arms 13 contact the casing 2 and due to their S-like shape, press against panel 5 in the casing, causing it to open and expose the mould which can then be rolled out of the machine on to rolls 33 in line with ramp 26. The rollers 8, 12 have diameters at least equal to the diameter of the moulds and, with an axial length equal to or greater than their diameter, consequently, the number of sets of rollers may be limited. The design of the machine is such that all the control and operating mechanisms is enclosed in fluid tight compartments. |
