PURPOSE:To generate ozone in high efficiency, by adding mercury vapor to an oxygen-containing gas as a raw material, feeding the gas to an ozonizer, followed by removing the mercury vapor in the reaction gas. CONSTITUTION:An oxygen-containing gas consisting of oxygen or air is fed from the inlet 7 for a raw material gas and passed through the mercury contactor 5 so that the gas contains mercury vapor. The mercury vapor-containing gas is fed to the outer tube 4 for ozone reaction. When the gas is passed between the outer tube 4 and the low-pressure mercury discharge tube 3, ozone is produced from oxygen by light with wave length 184.9nm emitted from the discharge tube 3 and ozone is simultaneously generated through photosensitized reaction of mercury by light with wave length 253.7nm. The ozonized reaction gas is passed through the mercury recovering device 6 so that mercury vapor is removed and discharged from the outlet 8 for ozonized air. The removed mercury is returned to the contactor 5 by the return pipe. |
