Supercharged four-stroke IC engine - has trochoidal rotary piston assembly with one half exhaust driven, and another acting as charging compressor

The four-stroke Otto-engine (1) is provided with an exhaust-driven supercharger (b) which itself consists of a modified trochoidal rotary piston engine assembly (2). One side of the latter has an air inlet (4) and outlet (5) and acts as compressor (3). The other side has separate inlet (7) and outlet (8) ports for the i.c. engine exhaust and acts as an expansion engine (6). The assembly housing is secured to the engine block. The compressor-engine assembly may have a three-edged piston rotor (9) in a trochoidal housing, whilst its rotor shaft (10) is coupled to the crankshaft (13) of the i.c. engine via a reduction gear (12).
