PURPOSE:To prevent a generation of the residual surface deformation, be hardening the roll surface to a compression yield strength higher than the value Pmax given by the formula. CONSTITUTION:The surface of the rolling roll, especially of the cold rolling roll, is hardened to the compression yield strength higher than a value Pmax given by the formula; after that, the electric spark dulling work is applied to the surface of this roll. In the formula, P is the rolling load, l is the length of contact of the roll, R1 is the radius of the roll to be dulled, R2 is the radius of its counter roll, upsilon1 is the Poisson's ratio of the roll to be dulled, upsilon2 is the Poisson's ratio of its counter roll, E1 is the Young's modulus of the work roll, and E2 is the Young's modulus of its counter work roll. The relation between the compression yield strength and hardness of 1% C - 3% Cr steel as the general roll material is shown in the figure; by which, if the stress caused in the roll surface under the working condition, is obtained, the hardness required of the roll subjected to the electric spark dulling work can be obtained. |
