<p>Rotor type electrostatic separator (10) with a mechanical barrier (28) to remove a layer (22) of entrained air from the rotating collector surface (12) prior to depositing on the surface from a feed hopper (16) a particulate feed for particle separation. Following the feed region (25) a new boundary layer of air with particles in it is entrained on the rotating collector surface. Means (32) are also provided to shield from the action of corona wind the feed region immediately following the feed hopper where the particles enter the newlyforming boundary layer. A sheet (18) extending from the feed hopper into contact with the surface blocks the boundary layer from entering the feed region. As an alternative to the feed hopper and shield the particle feed may be pneumatically conveyed through a feed tube (70) fitted to the barrier. </p> |
