The classifier causes sand contained in muddy water to settle onto the bottom of a drum for transfer of settled sand towards thr rear end of the drum. The classifier comprises helicoid blades(7) fixedly secured to the inner wall of the drum at regular intervals. Paddles are radially disposed around the inner periphery of the drum at the rear end each of the paddles having a number of apertures on the entire surface for separating the water from the sand before the sand is discharged. Water-free classified sand of a desired size is produced by the rotation of the drum(1) with min. wear of the classifier due to friction from the sand.
