<p>A gutter-shaped catch trough is secured below the gap between two adjacent support units in an underground mine. Its two longitudinal sides are fixed, or slide along them. The two longitudinal sides of the protective device are interconnected by a moving carrier. This can comprise a diagonal rod (25), hinged firstly (26) to the front end of one side (2) and secondly (27) to the rear end of the other or two or more members hinged together, with axes in the direction of movement of the protective device.
