The lock for a motor vehicle snow chain lies against the wall of the tyre and is simple to operate in conditions of ice, cold and dirt. The two free ends (3,4) af the snow chain are joined by a lock body (5) incorporating a clamp mechanism (6). The lock body is attached to one chain end (3). The second chain end rod (4) is inserted through a boring in the lock body, passing also through an aperture in the spring loaded clamp. The clamp, by virtue of its pivoted mounting in a wedge-shaped recess (8) in the lock body, grips the chain end piece (4).
