The gravitational separator includes a tank(10) having an inlet(12) for the mixt. and outlets(36) for the sepd. liquids includes screening member(100) placed between the inlet and outlets and which may cover the cross-section of the tank. Pref. the screens extend vertically and are placed concentrically within the chamber so that any entrapped oil is screened out finer and finer as it passes radially through the screens. The screens are pref. formed of oleophobic porous fibrous material, woven or knitted, rough on one side and smooth on the other and the screens are supported in a vertical metal or plastic framework
