PREPARATION OF 10-METHYLDODECYL ACETATE

NEW MATERIAL:A compound expressed by formula I (R is H or protecting group of the hydroxyl group). EXAMPLE:10-Methyl-9-dodecen-1-ol. USE:An intermediate for a control agent (10-methyldodecyl acetate which is one component of sex pheromone of Adoxophyes orana Fischer von Ro slerstamm which is an injurious insect of the order Lepidoptera). The control agent can be obtained through the intermediate in a simple operation in a few steps in high yield. PROCESS:A phosphonium salt expressed by formula II (x is halogen) is reacted with methyl ethyl ketone in the presence of a base to give the compound of formula I, which is then acetylated to give a novel 10 -methyl-9-dodecenyl acetate. The resultant compound is reduced to afford 10-methyldodecyl acetate.
