This direct current circuit breaker comprises a mechanical switch (2) provided on a rail (1) for flowing a direct current, and a semiconductor switch (20) connected in parallel to the mechanical switch (2). The mechanical switch (2) comprises a gas disconnector (3) and a vacuum circuit breaker (4) which are connected in series. Normally, a direct current flows through the mechanical switch (2), and when the direct current is to be interrupted, the vacuum circuit breaker (4) is rendered non-conductive so as to transfer the flow of the direct current over to the semiconductor switch (20), and then the gas disconnector (3) and the semiconductor switch (20) are rendered non-conductive. This allows the use of the vacuum circuit breaker (4) having a low withstand voltage. |
