<p>Polybutadiene having a high cis-1,4 content is produced by polymerizing butadiene-1,3 in an organic solvent comprising a C4-C8 aliphatic hydrocarbon using a catalyst system comprising (a) diethyl aluminum chloride,(b) water and (c) cobalt octoate or cobalt naphthenate. The catalyst compounds are added to the butadiene-1,3 in hydrocarbon solution in the sequence(a), (b), (c) or in the sequence (b), (a), (c). The product is useful as a raw material in automobile tire, gasket and conveyor belt manufacture.</p> |
