PURPOSE:To facilitate discharge start, reduce the restart time, and decrease the voltage required for the restart by laying a filament between electrodes, heating this filament, and starting discharge between the electrodes. CONSTITUTION:A filament 8 consisting of tungusten is connected between main electrodes 2 and 3 and the central vicinity of this filament 8 is supported using an anchor 9. A required amount of mercury and the argon as the start supporting gas are properly sealed in the inner part of a quartz glow tube 1. When voltage is applied between the leads 6 and 7 of a high pressure discharge lamp, current is applied to the filament 8 and discharge is started between the main electrodes 2 and 3. After the discharge is started, the high pressure discharge lamp reaches stable lighting status in a preset period of time. |
