PURPOSE:To obtain alkali of high purity and high concn. from an electrolytic cell assembled by clamping both end parts of cylindrical cation exchange membranes with clamping plates at the time of mounting ion exchange membranes in place of asbestos diaphragms of a diaphragm type alkali electrolytic cell. CONSTITUTION:Cylindrical cation exchange membranes 1 opened at both ends are passed and disposed through cathode chamber bottom parts 2 and the aperture parts 4 and 5 provided to catholyte and anolyte isolating plates 3. Next, the projecting parts of the membranes 1 are folded back and wound to the rising parts 6 provided in the peripheral parts of the aperture parts 4 and 5. Thence, clamping plates 8 are pressed to the rigdeline parts 9 of the parts 6, and are clamped to the bottom parts 2 and the isolating plates 3. Anodes 1 are inserted from below the membranes 1, and a cover for holding salt water is put on the upper part of the plates 3, whereby the electrolytic cell is assembled. |
