The invention relates to the construction and production of a hollow roller with a roller tube made of clear chill casting and with press-fitted axle legs, in particular for roller friction machines for fine-grade comminution of chocolate mass, colour stock and similar highly viscous processing materials. The object of the invention is to provide a fluid-tight connection of the roller tube, which avoids thickenings of the material, to the axle legs, which connection permits a secure interference fit of the axle legs and permits them to be held in spherical roller bearings. According to the invention, there is provision for the roller tube to have at both ends a collar and a phase which bounds the friction length and for the axle legs to be provided with a cylindrical shoulder which is press-fitted into the roller tube, the greatest diameter of the axle legs and the external diameter of the collars of the roller tube being of the same size and forming together a cylindrical surface on which in each case a shrink-fit ring is arranged, the inwardly acting radial forces of which are greater than the outwardly acting forces of the press-fitted axle legs. <IMAGE>
