PURPOSE:To simplify the constitution of a printer and to realize a high-speed operation as well as the high efficiency, by especially preparing a specific character symbol to be used for the vertical-horizontal conversion and then reading out the specific character symbol in reference to a code conversion table. CONSTITUTION:A substitute symbol character pattern part 8 where a specific symbol pattern to be used for the vertical writing is stored in a state convenient for the vertical-horizontal conversion, a KANJI (Chinese character) symbol pattern part 7 where a KANJI symbol pattern for the horizontal writing is stored, and a symbol converting information switching table 9 are connected to a control part 1 via an address designation line 13 and a data line 14. Then the control code or the character code of a designated print data 10 are decided at the control part 1 from the data 10 and a vertical-horizontal conversion switch designating signal 11. When the vertical printing is decided, the prescribed specific symbol character pattern is read out of the part 8. Then each read-out character pattern data PA is converted into a vertical writing pattern PB through a vertical-horizontal converting part 2. The data PB is transferred to a print control part 5 by the switch designating signal 12. Thus the printing speed is increased for the vertical writing. |
