A surface-coated product consists of a supporting element in the form of a thin-walled hollow profile of plastic with a layer of wooden veneer bonded onto the supporting element. The product is manufactured by the supporting element being continuously fed into a closed space together with the softened layer of veneer and a layer of glue therebetween, in order to be subjected to pulsating pressure action and heat from a vibrator via a vibrator head having a pressing surface adapted to the product. A circulating airflow keeps the atmosphere in the space at room temperature with relatively low moisture content. When the vibrator head is removed from the veneer surface in each working stroke, a vacuum is formed which rapidly removes the moisture from the wood and solvents from the glue, respectively. At the abutting of the head against the veneer surface, extracted vapours from said fluids are pumped away sideways. The bonding course is performed quickly, without time for the thin-walled supporting element to be influenced by heat or solvents, whereby deformation and dimensional deviation of the product obtained is prevented. <IMAGE> |
