The stamping appts. (1) is movable about its central axis (A1) to contact a flexible ink reservoir (2) during the marking periods. A positioning arm (3) is movable about its axis (A3) when operated by an electromagnet (4) to move the stamp from the rest to the operating position. The information supports travel around a drum (s) held by a drive belt (6). A head (7) magnetises the magnetic ink on the support and the information is read by a read head (8). A mechanical release arm mounted on the positioning arm locks the assembly into the rest and stamping positions by a ratchet with two defined positions. A wire fixed to the stamp is wound around a pulley and attached to the release arm to drive a ball releasing the ratchet.
