The lapping machine comprises a rotating lapping table (19) carrying coaxial walls (16, 17) to form an annular lapping chamber which is filled with a lapping liquid (32). A cylindrical closed-bottom (5) bush (30) holds the workpiece (4) under its bottom and in contact with the surface of the table. The bush is itself retained by a carrier (28, 27) secured to a fixed point (22), and the carrier has rotating rollers (29) engaging the inside of the bush. The surface of the table may be grooved (20) whilst its contact area has a surface roughness between 5 and 20 microns.
