NONMETALLIC OPTICAL CABLE UNIT

PURPOSE:To form a strong unit against the external force by providing the unit with a nonmetallic optical cable unit core coated with a nonmetallic protecting layer and a highly expansible preplating hardened layer mixed with woven fabrics which is applied to the external periphery of the unit core. CONSTITUTION:A nonmetallic optical cable unit 1 is provided with an optical fiber core group 4 formed by twisting plural optical fiber cores around the external surface of a nonmetallic central interposing member 2, a nonmetallic optical cable unit core 9 formed by covering the external surface of the core group 4 with a nonmetallic protecting layer 8 such as craped paper and a prepreg tape hardened layer 10 formed by coating the external periphery of the core 9 longitudinally with a prepreg tape and heating them to harden. For example, a plastic wire reinforced with glass fiber is permitted to be used for the nonmetallic central interposing member 2.
